The grade adjustment area of the manhole is the first to suffer deterioration from freeze/thaw cycles, traffic and other external forces. The Cretex Manhole Frame/Chimney Seal creates a watertight seal between the frame casting and top of the manhole cone to eliminate infiltration and inflow problems.
Frame seals are designed to be flexible. They let the manhole frame move with the surrounding pavement as it reacts to thermal expansion/contraction and traffic loadings, all while maintaining a watertight seal.
Cretex seals are constructed of high-quality long-lasting rubber and stainless steel. They fit manholes from 20 to 27" and are available in three widths ( 8-3/8", 10", and 13"). Other sizes are available, or add 7" or 10" extensions to provide additional coverage—contact USABlueBook for more information.
To install the seal, an installation tool is required. Choose from manual or hydraulic installation tools. The hydraulic installation tools will save a lot of time—it’s about 80% more efficient than the manual option. The manual tool requires a 1" socket and a 3/8" drive torque wrench.
When installing 5 or fewer seals, the manual tool is sufficient. If installing 6 or more seals, we recommend the hydraulic tool. The time and effort you’ll save installing seals will save you money in the end.
