Standard Methods was developed by the American Water Works Association, the American Public Health Association and the Water Environment Federation.
It provides step-by-step instructions for over 390 analysis methods, including physical and aggregate properties, metals, inorganic nonmetallic constituents, aggregate organic constituents, individual organic components, radioactivity, toxicity, microbiological examination and biological examination.
In the 24th edition, more than 90% of methods were revised to clarify procedures, update nomenclature and ensure consistency. Key improvements include more than 82 updated methods, including 10 in Radioactivity (Part 7000), 11 in Inorganic Nonmetallic Constituents (Part 4000) and 45 in Microbiological Examination (Part 9000). This edition also includes four new sections: 9750 Naegleria Fowleri; 4500-H₂O₂ Hydrogen Peroxide; 4500-PAA Peracetic Acid; and 10110 Algal Toxin Analysis: MC and NOD.
