Description

Product Details
  • Relieve pipe stress in water and sewer lines
  • Reduce vibration and noise

Pipeline expansion joints are designed to alleviate stresses caused by thermal expansion and contraction in piping systems. They also reduce noise and vibration. These joints are built like truck tires, in that the body tube consists of fabric and various other rubber compounds reinforced with steel wire and metal rings. Class 125 mounting flanges are an integral part of the body and utilize split steel retaining rings (included) for mounting to pipe flanges. An elastomeric tube is bonded to the body internally and is the only wetted component.

Our stock expansion joints are available with a single open arch for maximum flexibility or a single filled arch for minimizing friction loss in wastewater and slurry applications. Open arch expansion joints have either Chlorobutyl or Neoprene liners, both of which are recommended for water service. Filled arch expansion joints for wastewater applications will be supplied with either Chlorobutyl or Buna-N liners subject to availability.

Expansion joints can handle various degrees of axial compression and extension, plus lateral deflection depending on size and whether or not the arch is open or filled. The deflection chart covers the single, open arch style. For filled arch models, reduce the figures listed in the chart by 50%. If pipelines are unsecured, control rods should be purchased to prevent excessive elongation. Expansion joints should never be used to support either vertical or horizontal piping.

We list the most common sizes and styles available. However, we can supply joints from 1 to 84" and alternative internal tube materials including EPDM by special order. Contact USABlueBook for details.

Note: Control rod kits are recommended for all installations.
