Product Details
  • Determine the expansion of filter bed media during a standard backwash
  • Sample from outside the filter bed—no digging or confined space entry
  • Use as a standalone sampler or with the Filter Judge core sampler

Capture gravity filter bed media to determine media expansion during backwash cycles with this vertical grab sampler. With minimal time and effort, you can determine crucial performance criteria of the efficiency of your plant's filtration. This includes success of mudball removal, whether or not media mounding is taking place, and the ability of the backwash pump to remove entrained contaminants.

The Expansion Judge has segmented compartments marked with a clearly defined ruler, which lets you see how many inches of expansion occurred during a backwash. Draw samples up to 36" height max media, with overall length of 42". The inside of each compartment contains a white PVC shelf to contrast against dark-colored media and sand for easy identification. Ruler markings are in inches, but an adhesive-backed metric ruler in centimeters is available separately.

The Expansion Judge is constructed of lightweight NSF-approved PVC. The top of the unit has a threaded connection that's interchangable with a bottom segment of a Filter Judge media core sampler, which acts as a handle and extension (sold separately).

The Expansion Judge can be used without the Filter Judge segment, but will require a thread adapter (stock # 60899) to gain a 3/4" FNPT connection. It will also require a length of extension pipe that reaches above the bed's handrail—source locally.

Includes: hard plastic flat carrying/storage case.
