Sterikon Plus Bioindicators, EMD-10274.0004 (14/Pack)
Description
- Rapid, easy-to-use method for verifying steam sterilization
- Color change clearly indicates unsuccessful sterilization
Use these indicators to monitor the effectiveness of steam sterilization at 121°C (250°F) for 15 minutes. They also confirm that the prescribed temperature is reached throughout the chamber and remains constant for the entire 15 minutes.
Indicators consist of an ampoule containing nutrient broth, sugar, a pH indicator and 2 mL of spores from an apathogenic organism (Bacillus stearothermophilus ATCC 7953). To use, simply place ampoules in the autoclave along with the batch to be sterilized, and incubate at 60°C for 48 hours. Color change of ampule contents clearly indicates whether sterilization was successful.
Autoclaves with capacities of up to 250 L require at least two ampules, while larger ones require at least six. Sterikon Plus meets USP XXIV guidelines for monitoring the effectiveness of steam sterilization. A compact (4.4"W x 2.3"H x 3.4"D) 24-position dry block incubator (stock # 92190) is sold separately. It requires a dry block with 13 mm Dia wells (stock # 87912).
Note: For lab use only; not intended for monitoring sterilization of medical devices. Avoid use at temperatures above 125°C (257°F) to prevent damage to the bioindicator, resulting in color changes without increased turbidity.
