This unique valve is designed to release waste to outside of building in case of sewer line blockage. While not specifically approved by any code, many health departments would rather have diluted waste outside a dwelling than inside. It also prevents water from entering the house in high rain backflow conditions. It’s easy to install: simply solvent-weld the sewer relief valve over 4" Sch 40 DWV pipe.
